France announced that ten countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Malta, Andorra, and San Marino, will formally recognize the State of Palestine during a conference in New York next Monday, held alongside the UN General Assembly.
French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to deliver a speech at the event, officially declaring recognition. The decision marks a significant step in advancing the two-state solution amid ongoing conflict in Gaza and heightened international pressure.
The French presidency emphasized that the future Palestinian state should be based on the 1967 borders and warned Israel against annexing the occupied West Bank, calling it a “clear red line” and a grave violation of international law. It added that France and its partners would press Israel to take immediate measures to prevent the collapse of the Palestinian Authority, stressing the effort is aimed at promoting peace rather than confrontation.
