Wolvaardt and Kapp Rise Above, England’s Middle Order Fails

Date:

While South Africa’s superstars Laura Wolvaardt (169) and Marizanne Kapp (5/20) rose to the occasion, England’s middle order, which had “barely fired” all tournament, failed to stand up in a 125-run semi-final loss. The defeat ends England’s campaign, while South Africa advance to their first final.
After England’s top three were blown away for ducks by Kapp, leaving them at one for three, the pressure fell squarely on the middle order. Alice Capsey (maiden ODI fifty) and Nat Sciver-Brunt responded with a 107-run stand.
But Kapp returned to dismiss them both, along with Sophia Dunkley and Charlie Dean, to complete her five-wicket haul. The resistance was broken, and England were bowled out for 194.
This was in stark contrast to South Africa’s performance. When their middle order faltered (tumbling to 202 for six), their captain took over. Wolvaardt exploded for 69 runs off 28 balls, setting an unassailable total of 319 for seven.
Kapp’s record-breaking day with the ball and Wolvaardt’s masterful innings highlighted the difference between the two sides in a high-pressure knockout match.
