Cabinet Buildings in Kyiv Previously Targeted, Zelensky Reminds

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reminded observers that Russia previously targeted cabinet buildings in Kyiv while rejecting allegations of a drone attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence. US President Donald Trump expressed his anger after Putin informed him about the alleged incident.
Russian officials claim that Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones toward Putin’s Novgorod region property, all of which were intercepted by air defense systems. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Russia would reconsider its negotiating position in response to what he characterized as “state terrorism.”
Trump’s remarks to reporters emphasized his displeasure with what he viewed as an attack on a leader’s personal residence during peace negotiations. He acknowledged Ukraine’s military operations but suggested that targeting a world leader’s home undermines diplomatic efforts.
Zelensky categorically rejected the allegations, calling them fabricated propaganda designed to justify future Russian attacks. He specifically noted that Russia has already targeted government buildings in Kyiv, including the Cabinet of Ministers building, suggesting Moscow might use these false claims as pretext for similar strikes.
The dispute threatens recent diplomatic progress, particularly the positive atmosphere following Trump and Zelensky’s Florida meeting. The Kremlin’s announcement that Russia would reassess negotiations following Trump’s call with Putin indicates the controversy has already impacted peace efforts.
